Master of Ceremonies
Have you considered who will take the on responsibility of being your Master of Ceremonies? This is an often overlooked role, and one of huge importance. The MC at your wedding is the person that your guests will be looking to for what to do next.
Your MC is the person who ensures each of those moments happens when it should, and that the next moment is ready to go. Their role is not really to talk about you - that's up to those delivering a speech or toast. The master of ceremonies just brings everything together. Daunting? I can help.
If you have a suitable MC in mind, I can work with to help them perform their duties which may allow them to take some time to relax and be a guest at your wedding as well. I don't want to take over or do their job for them, and my input will be subtle and in the background.
Choosing your Master of Ceremonies
Your MC should be relaxed, prepared, and able to handle changes that may come along. While in many cases your venue will have staff that will ensure things happen on time, it's still the master of ceremonies that represents you and addresses your guests on your behalf.
With preparation, planning and perhaps a little professional coaching or support, the MC will be the key to making your reception flow seamlessly, and your guests never having to wonder "what's happening next?".
In short, the master of ceremonies focus is simply to inform, guide and direct. There's not necessarily any need to speak a lot or have an arsenal of jokes, in fact often quite the opposite. The MC should be introducing the guests presenting speeches, and most importantly letting guests know what is happening next every step of the way.
Not sure who to trust?
When acting as the MC at weddings, I'm often asked how I know the happy couple as it’s assumed I'm a friend or family member. To me, this is the ultimate compliment! If I blend right in and the guests think I'm "part of the family", all the preparation I put in before the wedding paid off.
I will ensure your guests always know what's happening next, and liase with other professionals on the day to help keep your timeline and their requirements in sync. Most importantly, I make sure the day is about you, the stars of the show.
I first acted as Master of Ceremonies at a client’s wedding sometime around 1999. Since then, I've gone as far as Las Vegas to a series of wedding DJ seminars to further my skills and early in 2008 I completed the Marbecca Master of Ceremonies Workshop. This doesn't mean I want to unleash a range of North American traditions or perspectives at your wedding. It's all about experience, looking outside the box for ways to enhance our own Kiwi traditions, or whatever is important t you.
Whoever you decide is the right fit for the job, I'll be sure to have a backup of all the required information. The more supporters you have around on the day who know what is supposed to be happening and when can only work in your favour. I've even stepped in as Master of Ceremonies with less than an hour's notice!
I'd love to hear more about your wedding day and how I might be able to assist with your MC requirements. Please get in touch. (Click to contact)
