When you hire me:

While I have more 25,000 thousand songs, you don’t have to like them all.  There are a lot of reasons why a specific song might make your Do Not Play list, perhaps it reminds you of a funeral or love lost, or you used to sing it every morning at your high school assembly.  You don’t need to tell me your reasons – if you don’t like it, I won’t play it.

If I asked you your favourite songs, it can take you a while to compile a list.  Yet when if I ask clients what they don’t like, it seems easier to come up with a short list very quickly.  In fact, the most common response is “No rap, no heavy metal“.  That’s easy.

I don’t play The Macarena, and I even have a copy of the bird dance.  I also won’t play the songs you detest either.

Alternative:

Some DJs forget that it’s not their party.  They don’t realise that just because they like it, doesn’t mean everyone else has to.  Some also don’t know what else to play if you eliminate their favourite artist or genre.   More to the point, they just don’t think to ask what’s important to you.
